1. Second hand iPhone 3G worth £50?

Is a second hand iPhone 3G (not 3GS) worth £50?
A friend of a friend is selling one, used (obvs!) but in good condition. Thinking about buying it for one of the parentals.

No. It's unsupported now. Apps won't run on it, the battery will have been shot to death and it'llbe slower than aanything.

You can get brand new phones under £70 which are 10x better

For £50 if in good condition? Sure. BUt at that age the battery may need replacing. See if you get through a normal day with the thing.

Actually, no... I thought 3GS... The 3G? You'll find a better used Android device, or even WP

I wouldn't even get a 3GS nowadays, it will also be unsupported come the released of iOS7 (which is no more than a few months away).

The iPhone 4 is as old as I'd recommend anyone going and even then, only if they were intending on keeping it for a maximum of 12 months, as no doubt it'll lose support when iOS8 is released in 2014.

If someone wanted a long-term iPhone, I wouldn't recommend going any older than the 4S. That should get support for both iOS7 and iOS8, keeping it relevant until at least mid-2015.
