It may not have had the reception RIM was hoping for, but that isn't stopping Canada's finest from prepping a follow-up to the PlayBook tablet to hit the market later this year.
Well, when we say “follow-up” we mean more “big brother”, as the second PlayBook won't be too different on the inside to the current model, which has only just launched after all. What it will have, though, is a bigger 10in screen.
That's the last-minute tidbit to emege from the BlackBerry World show in Florida, which otherwise peaked with the announcement of the new BlackBerry Bold Touch earlier this week.
It's not RIM itself that has served up the information, though. This comes from those murky “multiple sources” often found peddling this sort of information to ears that are willing to listen, in this case those belonging to a BGR reporter.
The site claims the bigger PlayBook is being tipped for an end-2011 launch, and stresses that the follow-up is less a PlayBook 2 than a PlayBook 1 variation. Still, that isn't stopping BGR from speculating about email clients, updated BBM and other add-ons that may or may not be heading the PlayBook's way.
We're not sure whether we should believe this one or not, but it does continue an interesting trend for manufacturers to avoid choosing between 7in and 10in screen sizes by simply offering both.
