$12 million golden handshake for former RIM CEOs

million golden handshake for former RIM CEOsIf you were to make a list of all the people thoroughly deserving of a multi-million bonus, RIM’s former CEOs, Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie, would surely be right down at the bottom beside Elop and Ballmer.

So it might come as a surprise to hear that the former pair has walked away with a whopping $12 million between them. Well done, guys.

While the duo could do no wrong prior to the arrival of iOS and Android, the past few years saw them drive RIM nearly into the ground, much to the ire of shareholders. Ultimately, the pair was replaced in January by current CEO, Thorsten Heins.

However, a 6-K filing from RIM explains: “Messrs. Lazaridis and Balsillie revolutionized the worldwide wireless industry with the introduction of the BlackBerry and forever changed how the world communicates.

“Under their leadership, the Company successfully navigated many challenges and quickly scaled to become a global company and industry leader with sales in over 175 countries and more than 17,000 employees worldwide.

“Over the last decade, the Company experienced tremendous growth, with annual revenues increasing from $294 million to just under $20 billion.”

No mention of launching the BlackBerry PlayBook without a native email client? I’m shocked.

Also no mention of the fact RIM are now, along with Nokia, in a race to see who devalue a previously successful company, fastest.

Goldman Sachs paid 12billion dollars in bonus money in 2011. There is NOTHING like a financial crisis ;)

Elop will get a lot more than those two RIMmers. Trust me ;)

But hey, Emma offered me 50p if I resign...

Don't worry, I'm sure they can borrow more money to pay his bonus the day before Nokia inevitably declare bankruptcy.

i rang tesco. and they told me to factory reset the phone to see if its software before they will take it into fix/replace.

matt101101 / MOD  Jun. 17, 2012 at 00:37

And have you done that? I'd be willing to bet it doesn't fix it, as CyanogenMod9 and a stock Samsung firmware both produced the same issues for me. Btw, I never bothered getting mine fixed, I just bent the tab inside the USB socket and it's not needed re-bending for several weeks now (though sometimes it needs doing after a few days).

Treab  Jun. 17, 2012 at 00:52

Yeah done a factory reset and it hasn't happened since last night... its wierd due to it being soo intermittent... but they have said if it continues just to send it in... (they pay postage and packing...)

matt101101 / MOD  Jun. 17, 2012 at 00:56

Mine was pretty frequent by the time I looked into how to fix it, as you use your charger more and more (as you need to with the S2's battery life :p), the problem will likely get worse and worse. You could always just send it in and have them replace the USB to be on the safe side, you won't be worrying about it then, either.
