It's the original, the biggest, and – most would agree – the best. We're talking of course about the Apple App Store, the thriving software hub that feeds the millions of iOS devices around the globe.
Apple has revealed that the iDevice faithful have now racked up an incredible 15 billion downloads of the 425,000-odd apps available in the App Store. Kind of makes Apple's paranoia about other companies using the 'app store' name a bit daft, really...
So, the stats, then. 15 billion downloads from those 425,000 apps. In total, there are 200 million iOS devices around, which Apple helpfully tells us means 75 apps on average for every iOS device on the planet.
“In just three years, the revolutionary App Store has grown to become the most exciting and successful software marketplace the world has ever seen,” Apple vice-pres Phil Schiller cooed in revealing the milestone.
“Thank you to all of our amazing developers who have filled it with over 425,000 of the coolest apps and to our over 200 million iOS users for surpassing 15 billion downloads.”
In other words, thanks for all the cash.
And for the record, Apple has just lost its attempt to get Amazon and change its “Appstore” name to something less, well, app-ish over in the states. Just a few billion downloads to go then, eh, Amazon?
