I need a sub £150 Android for a birthday present. what is the current best buy? (Sub £100 is better)

Please help.

Also how do i tag this as android!
I need to pick one by the 26th Oct.

I was considering the G300, but not sure about huawei, would rather spend more and get a known brand.

Please tell me what to buy (PAYG or SIM FREE)
it will be used on 3 network so easy/cheap unlocks are fine, and also second hand is cool.

Also I have seen the Lumia 800. how does this stack up considering its windows?

140,000 employees. Operating revenue £185 billion. Profit $23.8 billion. Huawei, an unknown brand? Give me a break! The Ascend G300 is a solid performer. There's a G330 and G600 coming out too.

Certainly. If you live in china or work in networking and telecomes or government you will know huwei.

The rest of us however... bleh.....

Also the xperia u is a dual core 1ghz vs g300 single core.

Yes the low memory may be a problem but its not for me.

Thx for your opinions. Perhaps you could give me links to where I can buy the handset for a rasnoble price?

Pretty much every internet dongle and 'mifi' on this planet is made by Huawei.
Some solid Acer devices fall into the £150-ish category. Much better build and performance than the old Liquid range. Looks and feel much classier and distinct than the G300.

I would still be interested to see your take Jan,

Its always possible to cancel the other order (or they refurb may be unacceptable) in which case i would rather have an alternative.

Acer Liquid Galant Duo (got good review from MoDaCo's O'Brien http://www.expansys.com/acer-liquid-gallant-duo-black-234432/

Acer Liquid Glow http://www.expansys.com/acer-liquid-glow-cats-eye-black-234412/

But I guess the Sony U is not bad, either

Amin  Oct. 16, 2012 at 17:08

thanks for that, those are great phones, the gallant is good especially, but where it really excels is having dual simcard :)

i think the xperia is a good phone but its sooooo tiny. i'm kinda surprised how people manage with the iphone 4/s :D

According to the Modaco review of the Galant Duo, the dual-sim feature works really well. Handy for a cheap data-only sim, or a work number... And Acer ditched the plastic in favour of Gorilla Glass.

iPhones are the only 3.5-inchers I can really type on. My Pre 2 was 3.5 inches, but it had a hardware QWERTY, so, that is different. I have been setting up and rooting a friend's Motorola Pro+ - it's only 3.1in (+hardware qwerty). I can live with that. I rarely play games or watch long videos on my phone. By the way: the Pro+ is available for £100 or less, also.

See if you can get Xperia Sola on the cheap - that would be preference for less than 4" device.

The micro sd slot makes that a far more palatable option than the U

Problem is it has an unremoveable battery. the xperia U was out of stock guys. any other suggestions?

Xperia U here for £150 - (the electronic bay) http://****.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190740137953&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT

I don't like Sony (overhyped in my eyes), but the Xperia U is an excellent device. I recommended my sister to get one and she has absolutely no complaints about it. It's fast, has a decent battery life, and the colours are a neat little touch. Go for it!

I ordered it and e2save is still offering it for sale. But they informed me by email its awaiting stock.....

Funnily enough my sister had stock problems when she ordered hers as well. I don't think it's that big a seller so I'm not sure what the problem actually is!
