Is a 32GB iPhone really necessary?

I’m looking at iPhones and memory is quite expensive. Could I get away with 8GB if I just want to keep music on it?

I have always thought the 16gb is a happy medium.
8Gb, not enough if you do listen to music (and watch films and take pictures)
32Gb, I know someone who has one and it's only ever half full, so a bit of a waste.

I personally find 8 GB manageable - though you want some space for apps and photos (the iPhone 4 has a oretty fun camera).
But consider this: you won't keep it forever - the extra you spend now for 32 GB will come back to you when you re-sell ;)
But yeah, 8 GB is plenty, and it doesn't take long to synch new playlists now and again and move pics from the phone to your PC/Mac...

It you not big on music and videos 32GB is too much. Applications will never need more than 4GB, and transferring pictures over to PC will keep space usage to minimum.
There are some apps and some games that require 2GB each, but otherwise apps are really small.

Desisions decisions!? I don't want to get a smaller one and then regret it a little bit down the line... but then the largers are quite a bit more.
