Given that today is iPad 2 launch day, we shouldn't be all that surprised that there's an awful lot of tablet news around.
We have Acer to thank for the latest bit of news – it's come out and stuck price tags on the Iconia Tab A500 and W500 tablets that'll be hitting the high streets here in the UK over the next couple of months.
The Iconia pair were first shown off back in November, but Acer has only really been making a noise about them since Mobile World Congress a month and a half ago. So we're quite pleased to see release dates not pegged way into the future: the W500 will be with us on April 8, with the A500 to arrive in mid-May.
Acer has hedged its OS bets with the pair – as the names suggest, the W500 is a Windows-based tablet, while the A500 runs Android Honeycomb. Both are 10in affairs, with the former sporting a 1GHz AMD processor and the latter the familiar Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core chip.
Price-wise they're pretty competitive: £449 for a 32GB slate is about the going rate these days, although the Windows-based model is designed to be used with an add-on keyboard dock, which adds £80 to the price.
