Act surprised: HTC has announced the Desire C

Act surprised: HTC has announced the Desire CVodafone Portugal managed to draw any kind of surprise element out of the whole thing by dishing up all the important details ahead of schedule, but what the hell, we'll do our best: look everyone! It's the HTC Desire C!

HTC has finally done the decent thing and given official credentials to the smartphone formerly known as the Wildfire C, which was formerly known as the HTC Golf. Don't all cheer at once, now.

So for the five of you who don't already know, here's the spec: there's a 3.5in HVGA touchscreen, a 5-megapixel camera, Beats Audio software and probably the best part of the whole deal: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (with lashings of HTC Sense 4.0 on top, naturally).

HTC plans to release two variants of the Desire C – one with NFC capabilities, and one without. Either way you also get 25GB of Dropbox space for two years, which is fair enough, as it's as long as anyone's likely to use the handset for.

The HTC Desire C will be available next month in black, white and red, and will set you back either £170 on prepay deals, or for around £15 a month on contract.

Lets see...

1ghz vs 600 mhz
3.7" vs 3.5"
512mb vs 4gb

Hmm interesting...

so a phone announced in 2010 (which can be bought for 179.99 new) is replaced by a worse phone 2 YEARS LATER..

HTC HAVE YOU LOST YOUR FREAKING MIND?????

desire c or desire... hard choice.

Pondlife  May. 15, 2012 at 20:29

I think the worst part is the screen res.
320 x 480 pixels v 480 x 800 pixels

Treab  May. 15, 2012 at 20:36

Hmm desire c vs g300... hard choice... NOT. nice £70 to keep,,

Also, what happened to HTC's "less is more", approach with the One Series of devices. Not only have they released another model, they've reincarnated a two year old naming series.

That lasted a whole 5 minutes, theyve already announced about 47 phones since having "less is more" approach. IF someone did a list of phones announced since that, id bet its over 10. HTC is a joke

We've had:

One X
One XL
One S
One V
Evo 4G LTE
Desire C

There are probably more, which I've forgotten.

Jim988  May. 15, 2012 at 21:08

Don't forget the HTC Chinese Dragon series or whatever they called it? desire might of been, which i believe adds another 3 to the list.

Pondlife  May. 15, 2012 at 21:21

Droid Incredible 4g lte?

AhmadCentral  May. 15, 2012 at 22:11

Tbh, the One X, XL, EVO 4G are all the same phones on different networks. + The Chinese dragon series are exclusive to china's networks.

I like the way HTC went with the One S and One X (apart from no micro sd/removable battery) But the One V and Desire C are just not cool. They're old phones recased, rebranded, and repriced (higher!). These phones are budget phones which don't deserve that price. HTC don't have any midrange phones released this year so i think thats why they've priced these phones midrange.

HTC Need to do something different like maybe another phone like the Cha Cha (BUT BETTER DESIGNED!) or a slide phone.

People still gonna buy it though....

Jim988  May. 15, 2012 at 22:27

Its still no excuse for making a ridiculos amount of phones.

Not sure what you mean, the cha cha was a terrible phone, every aspect of it was a fail.

Pondlife  May. 15, 2012 at 22:27

The evo 4G has microsd, whereas XL has only 16gb onboard? Surely that Evo 4G and the XL have different processor to the X is substantial enough change to think them different?

Most android phones have same processor, similair screen and specs etc. So by that guys logic, every tegra 3 android phone is exactly the same just in a "different case" etc

I mean the qwerty design style. If you look at a phone like th BB 9900 or the Motorola Pro Plus, these phones have good designs/specs and i'd like to see HTC try a high end physical qwerty phone that actually looks good/runs well.

By the same phone, what i mean is they're just varients on another network of the same phone but for the US market. We can't get them here. Just like how Samsung released the standard S2, but the the Skyrocket on AT&T and the Epic touch on Sprint and the HD LTE blah blah on another US network etc...

Treab  May. 15, 2012 at 22:46

Its a terrible terrible smartphone. ONE THAT SHOULD NOT EXIST... a 600mhz processor running 4.0 it will be a pig.

Jim988  May. 15, 2012 at 22:50

Anyone who would buy this over the G300 would have to be mental..

*Looks at all Major worldwide retailers that sell mobile phones*

:P

Pointless phone is pointless.
When Hauwei g300 owners get the ICS update, they'll be laughing.

Pondlife  May. 15, 2012 at 23:55

Thought the skyrocket got cancelled.

Yeah, the Skyrocket and Skyrocket HD were different phones.

krogothnx  May. 16, 2012 at 08:43

i can understand the desire (pardon the pun) to keep the desire branding alive. the original desire was pretty much the first android phone that everyone wanted and made HTC a proper well-known brand in their own right, no?

however, releasing what is pretty much a wildfire s with a slight screen increase and an android update under a non-wildfire name is what really confuses me.

Pondlife  May. 16, 2012 at 14:31

Yeah yeah yeah yeah but but but but it's got nfc and erm beats too..
