One of the lamest things in mobile is easily inexplicably high roaming charges, but Three continues to punch “the great roaming rip-off” – as it calls it – in the face.
The network has added five new countries to its Three Feel At Home proposition, brining the total to 16 destinations where you can use your domestic allowance with no further charges.
The five new countries are France, Switzerland, Israel, Finland and Norway, and as such visitors on Three will be able to use data, and call and text home, using their normal monthly allowance.
The 11 existing Three Feel At Home countries were the US, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Macau, Australia, Italy, Austria, Hong Kong, Sweden, Denmark and Republic of Ireland.
When you touch down, you should get a text along the lines of: “Great news. Call & text the UK & get online at no extra cost using your inclusive plan or Add on allowance” – as I did when I visited N’Orleans back in April.
Also a good idea to contact Three beforehand to make sure you have international capabilities activated. A quick message via twitter will do the trick.
Three exec Dave “Double D” Dyson says: “Roaming charges are a rip-off and Three is tackling the issue head-on. We haven’t just reduced charges; we’ve now scrapped them in 16 destinations, making it fairer, easier and more enjoyable to use your phone abroad.
“The addition of five more countries, including France, to Feel At Home is another big step and one that marks our determination to eliminate roaming rates full-stop.
“I want customers to stay connected when they’re overseas without the fear of a nasty bill when they return.”
