Alcatel offloads One Touch Evo 8HD tablet at IFA 2013

Alcatel offloads One Touch Evo 8HD tablet at IFA 2013Alcatel has been busy of late, and it's keeping the momentum going with the newly announced One Touch Evo 8HD, an Android 8-incher with its eye on the lower end of the market.

As far as tablets go it's nothing special, but Alcatel is banking on a range of added value accessories to help the Evo 8HD stand out from the crowd.

These include a low profile magnetic flip cover case that's available in a range of colours, while there's also the Magic Flip cover, which can alert you to incoming messages and the like through a series of LEDs.

Then there's the One Touch Home V100, a plug-in dongle that allows you to port what's on your tablets screen to an HD TV without fuss.

As for the One Touch Evo 8HD itself, the 8in display has a standard 1024 x 768 resolution, and the processor is a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 running at 1.6GHz. There's 1GB of RAM and a frankly disappointing 4GB of storage. Thankfully you can add more by way of microSD card.

The battery delivers a decent 4160mAh of juice, while the camera pair come in at just 2MP (front) and 3MP (back). Nothing fancy, then, but one plus point we weren't really expecting is 4G LTE compatibility.

Nothing yet and price and availability, but you'd assume it'll come in at well under £200.

I love the eInk cover they showed off!!! Attach to their tablet and have a battery saving reader!
Excellent. Essentially a yota tablet. Alcatel, thumbs up. You may just have launched the only Android tablet I'd ever buy!

Does the tablet have an e-ink screen cover? I can see the mention for the phone but not the tablet?

Its still a geniud idea, plus, looking online, ITS GOT A MOTHERHUBBARD DOCKING STATION which I still think is essential for a tablet that will live in the living room, and a dedicated HDMI stick you can use to connect to your TV

Congratualtions to Alcatel who really have looked outside the box and offered a complete solution to real world tablet use

Nah, my bad - it's their new phablet that can attach an eInk cover.
Still, excellent idea!

It is, sounds like they have a lot of ideas for their onetouch hero as well which are interesting! Including

- Covers with e-ink screens
- Covers with QI wireless charging
- Magnetic docing station for adding pico projectors
- A seperate "feature phone" accessory that you can use to call/text rather than pull out the phablet (quite an interesting concept)
- a HDMI accessory that means you can easily share things with any TV using DLNA

All in all very interesting, certainly in my eyes makes Alcatel the first company ive seen that are trying to actually try and "break the mold" at IFA 2013
