Well, it’s now official, Jim. The Amazon Android Appstore is finally – finally – moving outside the US.
The European arm of the Amazon Android Appstore will initially be available - er, at some point - in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain, before “further global expansion”. About bloomin’ time.
“We’re excited to open the door to even more opportunity by expanding app sales outside the US,” wept Jim Adkins, VP of the Amazon Appstore.
“We see tremendous potential for current developers in our distribution program to grow with the international expansion. We also encourage new developers to join and participate in the platform’s growth.”
All apps in the Amazon Android Appstore can potentially be sold internationally, however developers can tailor which countries they’d like their wares to be sold in.
Of course, the arrival of the Amazon Android Appstore mightn’t be particularly exciting in itself (save for the odd ‘free app’ deal), but this opens the doors for the Amazon Kindle Fire.
We don't expect to see the current Amazon Kindle Fire in the UK, but the next wave of devices now seems highly likely.
