It’s been almost a year since Jeff Bezos & Co lifted the lid on the original Amazon Kindle Fire, and there’s been muchos speculation as to what comes next for the Amazonians.
Well, we mightn’t have long to wait, as Amazon has been firing out invites for a press conference taking place on September 6. That’s… two weeks yesterday.
The invites don’t give much away. Tricia Duryee of AllThingsD says the text, in its entirety, reads: “Please join us for an Amazon Press Conference.”
The mysterious event is going down at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. Uhm, that doesn’t mean much to me, but Tricia reckons it’s pretty big.
So what can we expect? Well, a 10in Amazon Kindle Fire has been rumoured since the dawn of time. It was expected to launch last year alongside the 7in model, alas…
There’s also a ton of chatter about a refreshed 7in Amazon Kindle Fire, with a slightly better display. Meh.
Or how about an Amazon smartphone? Story goes it’s in testing and/or nearing production.
In any case, we’re not overly excited. Indeed, I recently penned an uncharacteristically cynical (shut it) feature titled Why Amazon’s time in the hardware sun might be over.
