Considering nothing has actually been announced or confirmed yet, we're all talking about the possibility of Amazon launching tablet as if it was cast-iron fact.
So clearly an interview with founder and CEO Jeff Bezos was the ideal opportunity for the Amazon boss to rein in the rumour-mongers and keep expectation in check. Problem is, he didn't exactly do that.
Speaking to Consumer Reports this week, Bezos simply said to “stay tuned” when asked directly if Amazon was planning on launching a tablet of its own.
When pressed further, he revealed that if Amazon was to launch a tablet, it wouldn't put the popular Kindle reader under threat, but instead would supplement what he called the “purpose-built e-reading device”.
“We will always be very mindful that we will want a dedicated reading device,” he said. “In terms of any other product introductions, I shouldn’t answer.”
Of course, Bezos no doubt knows that there are ways of not answering a question that manage to speak volumes, and we can't help but feel that in not answering this one he's pretty much told us everything we need to know.
