Amazon planning two new Kindle Fire tablets for H2 2012

Amazon planning two new Kindle Fire tablets for H2 2012Now that the new iPad is well and truly here, the rumour mill has shifted its attention back to Amazon, speculating on what post-Kindle Fire goodies the book giant might have in store.

Good old Digitimes suggests that Amazon is working on not one but two tablets, both set to land in the second half of space year 2012AD.

These new Amazon Kindle Fires will supposedly weigh in at 7in and 10in, but there's no mention of the 8.9in model rumoured throughout late 2011.

Interestingly, Digitimes’ “industry sources” insist Amazon will move away from simple eBook readers and focus squarely on balls-out tablets. Y’know, in all their full colour, app-running, big-screened glory.

According to “market data”, Amazon punted a whopping 3.98 million Kindle Fires in Q4 2011, grabbing a 14% share of the global tablet PC market and taking the silver medal on the vendor podium.

The existing 7in Amazon Kindle Fire has sold ludicrously well despite some fairly negative reviews (including one 1,500-word essay slating it as “disappointingly poor”), but the $199 price tag hasn’t done it any harm.

Still no official word on a UK release date for the Amazon Kindle Fire…

Certainly dragging out the uk launch of the first one, seems like we wouldn't get any sequels before the ipad9 is out

Thanks! That's going on my LoveFilm list. So at least Amazon make some money out of this :D

It's surprisingly good. I was all geared up to hate it (on account of introducing young'uns), but I reckon it's the best in the series to date.

Certainly better than Origins with its 'amnesia bullet.' What a steaming ****.
