Wedge Partners analyst Brian Blair has been speaking about his predictions for the (presumably) imminent iPad 3, suggesting that its arrival mightn’t necessarily spell death for the humble iPad 2.
He also comments on the recent speculation that we might see a smaller iPad in 2012, but uttered those five words every girl dreads hearing: “Don’t expect a 7-incher”.
Bri explains: “While we believe Apple has tested 7-inch screen prototypes for over a year, we don’t currently expect the company to release anything in the 7-inch size in 2012.”
Our Martin recently scribbled about an increase in orders for 7in displays out east, however Steve Jobs was vehemently opposed to the no man’s land that separates smartphones and full-sized tablets.
Interestingly, Bri expects Apple to keep the iPad 2 around when the iPad 3 touches down. It’ll serve as a slightly cheaper alternative to the flagship, a bit like the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4.
Should we give credence to Bri’s words? Well, earlier this year, Senor Blair correctly predicted we’d receive a modest upgrade to the iPhone 4S - better camera, faster processor, same case - rather than a balls-out iPhone 5.
