Android 4.0.3 ICS For Nokia N9 - 1st Alpha launched

Alpha Release #1 "Project Mayhem"

Things expected to work:
- dualboot kernel (without reflashing), ability to choose OS after power on.
- 3D drivers, OpenGL
- hwrotation (portrait mode only, accelerometer HAL doesn't work)
- touchscreen (multitouch)
- hw buttons (volume, power)
- ECI accessory (headset buttons)
- USB networking
- lcd off in sleep mode
- alarm driver, RTC

- basic CellMo functionality: network registration, USSD, SMS, data (GPRS/EDGE/3G), signaling. Actually, ofono/ofono-ril stack is used: all things that it able to do on the n900.
- bluetooth (scanning, can pair devices. I didn't test deeper).
- charging (note: without any notification in UI)
- sensors: accelerometer
- audio: playback (audio routing to: loudspeaker, headset or earpiece)
- lights HAL (lcd brightness)
- root access (via adb shell; su/Superuser.apk)

Looks better already

Bloody expensive for a single core Android phone, though.

Well, it's not dual-core, but dual-boot :p

Cheapest Nokia Android phone ever though? ;)

Pondlife, not sure why your comment got stopped there, odd. You do have a fair point though ;).

Jan, who needs dual-core when you have dual-boot, eh ;)?

Exacly...and not many ICS devices yet LOL One of the first: a Nokia... Yay, Elop rules all platforms.
Wasn't the HTC HD2 one of the first devices to get Gingerbread? :p

Yeah, WP7.5 too, AFAIK :p.

That's a phone which will go down in history...

That screen seems really reflective.

That guy's little finger looks really bendy...

True, actually. Outdoors the N9 is a bit shiny. Other Nokia clear-black devices are much better outdoors. I think that fancy curvature is to blame. It's pretty idiotic.

JanSt / MOD  Mar. 26, 2012 at 23:56

Here, I say it: buying (well, swapping) the N9 was the dumbest thing I did all year. I'd actually like to slap every single blogger who overhyped the device for no other reason than, "oh, it's different"...

I also apologise for having done my share of 'talking it up' simply based on my experience with MaeMo etc yada yada. The N9 is even worse than what Eldar Murtazin made it out to be.

Take this as a warning. Buuuuuuuuuuuaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaa....

Now, who wants to buy mine?

I think I'm gonna try it later. Nothing can screw up my N9 more than Nokia...

PS: the instructions for Alpha 2 are incomplete. Follow the instructions above for Alpha #1, and just replace the line for the new tar ballz...
