Android v Apple: Acer says Google will lead the way

Android v Apple: Acer says Google will lead the wayThe founder of computer giant Acer is putting his money behind Android to outdo Apple – for the immediate future at least.

Stan Shih told Taiwan’s United Daily News that as far as he is concerned, Android will continue to work well because of a strong partnership between Intel and Google where both are constantly trying to come up with solutions to optimise the OS’s speed and performance.

He claims that Android has been buoyed on by both PC and smartphone suppliers to become one of the world’s favourite systems and is the antidote to Cupertino’s “walled garden” approach to the portable communication device market.

And looking further into the abyss, Shih told reporters that Android-powered Atom processors – which will be built into future devices on the platform – are likely to outsell Apple’s own inventions and lead the way when it comes to developing PCs.

Says the company whose Liquid MT became a decent seller...when the price was halved.
What can Acer say? They cannot make an iPhone, can they?

And anyway, a man in his position should know better than to compare an OS present on a handful of luxury gadgets and Android which is fragmented, and runs on hundreds of devices.

I think Acer is right: the world needs open systems (preferably Unix- based because more reliable, like Android) more than closed systems that may be unique but forces users to buy whatever the provider chooses to sell..
