Is Android a more sensible long-term investment?

In terms of getting apps first, and getting exclusive apps, is Android a better long-term investment than the iPhone?

No. Both iOS and Android are getting some apps first, some exclusively and some not at all.
Add to that the sad fact that some Android device makers are extremely tardy when it comes to software updates, now and again it happens that you end up with a phone that cannot handle the latest app or the latest update.
Not saying that that happens frequently, but it does happen. So that is a tiny disadvantage.

But generally speaking: there isn't much of a difference.
Of course, Google's own apps are a different, separate issue - as are Apple's own - which are exclusive. Google's staples usually appear in some flavour for iOS. But often a bit later and in slightly different form.

and in slightly different form
Read: worse form (due to restrictions placed on 3rd party iOS apps by Apple).

Arguably, yes...
