Android Market ---> Google Play

Hi Guys,

So this morning I tried to access Android Market and a new screen telling me that it was being upgraded to google Play. I, in my infinite wisdom, decided to close it off rather than accept so that I could have a quick google to see if it was legit and not the spawn of this demon-malware that anti-virus companies are constantly trying to convince us exists. So anyway, the result of this is 2 icons: Android Market and Google Play, both of which say "this application is not installed".

The only way I could get round this was as follows:

Download a market .apk from somewhere (fairly) reputable like XDA
Go to Settings>Applications>ManageApplications>All>Market and then force stop and clear data and cache.
Install the .apk file
open market a couple of times and it will offer the acceptance screen again.

I had tried rebooting and all the obvious solutions but this is the first thing that actually worked! Hopefully it'll be of some help should someone else have the same issues :)

I've promoted this to the front page, great advice mate :).

Btw, did get ICS on your Note :)?

Cheers Matt! I looked into it but the best ROM appears to be MidNote which is based on the chinese leak so it would only be clocked at 1.2ghz. Put me off just enough to wait for the hopeful release next week that you mentioned :)

you have a note? how is that for you bro? im surprised how successful it is considering the size of the damn thing lol

Oh right, that seems a fair enough reason for waiting then. Is your Note unlocked/unbranded? If it's not it could be longer than a few weeks until your network get around to releasing the update, complete with their bloatware :(.

On a less off topic note, this is great advice you've given people. Even though Google Play is just a rebranded Android Market, it's always nice to have the latest version of stuff...especially if you're a tech geek :p.

have you got the update matt? i dont :(

Treab, I'm surprised how successful it's been too, apparently the niche market was bigger than we, or Samsung, anticipated.

then lg tried to muscle in with that monstrosity...

Yes I do have the update, my "Android Market" app is now called "Play Shop" with a new icon. The actual app is exactly the same once it's open though.

LG's Vu is the ugliest phone I've seen in a long, long time...you'd need huge hands to use it.

As long as it helps someone :)

(on the Note) I have to admit, I was probably within that "niche" to start with but I personally find it fantastic. After a week I got used to it, after a month, I'm totally accustomed to it to the point that I find it really frustrating to use anything smaller (ie my other halfs s2). The fact is that browsing has now stopped being a case of "I can google that on my phone" and became "I want to google that on my phone". And believe it or not, I have now began texting on it one handed!

I am now pretty firmly of the opinion that the size of phones is purely down to the context of what we are used to, I think the best example of this is (if you can remember it) the likes of the nokia 7210? Or maybe even the 8210? I picked one of these up a couple of months ago and although they seemed perfectly acceptable at the time, in the day of Desires and iPhones, they're totally unusable!
