which Android smartphone is best as an mp3 player?

which Android smartphone is best as an mp3 player? I'll mostly be texting, and listening to music, so wonder which is best with mp3s. Or are they much the same?

I know the original Galaxy S had a good DAC but not sure about much since then.

Not easy to test in store I wouldn't think, although ideally that's only way to find out.

I'd guess Samsung and Sony with their history of mp3 players would be better than many of the others (disregarding htc purely because of beats) but no guarantee that they've put much effort into the sound.

The quality of the mp3 files will affect whether you'd be able to hear the difference anyway.

If you want to get hardcore on it then external dac joy awaits.

On paper at least the HTC One? And, don't laugh, Acer's Cloud phone. Dolby mobile, and some other shenanigans. Tried it a couple of weeks ago, and it sounds very impressive with non-Acer earphones...
Which brings up earphones... I find the new earpods by Apple have a very nice sound but hello... What about loud? They are ridiculously quiet.

Anyway, realistically the Nokia N91 is still unbeaten. Nothing on the planet sounds better.
But I guess you weren't looking for a 6 years old model?

Not unless that Nokia is magically an android phone as they were specific on that point.

Best was my old sony Ericsson 580I. Problem I found nowadays is trying to pickup where I left off. Listening to a podcast on way to work...stop the player. Come back after work and the player starts back at the beginning of the track.
