Do Android updates come automatically to the phone?

When a new version of Android is released, does it automatically get sent to your phone?

No! Imagine they would just send loads of data to your phone!?!
Some Android phones support OTA Updating (Over The Air) - usually somewhere in Settings you can check for available updates. Other phones make you use the PC suite to check for updates. Then there is the issue of phones with network branding - usually those get updates later, and sometimes only after enough people 'bug' the network.

And how frustrating that they assume we all use PCs...what about us Mac users (and please no PC fan boy comments!)

Cliveports,
I totally agree with you (I'm a linux user....).
I couldn't believe it when MS launched WP7 devices without a way for non-Windows users to get any content onto the phones.

Most PC suites are very bloated and resource hungry. And think back to Samsung's Galaxy S updates and the PC suite flaw....pffft

I emailed Samsung and they say that a version of Kies for Mac is 'just around the corner' ...whatever that means!
