Angry Birds developer Rovio has backtracked on earlier claims that the latest Angry Birds Space release won't make it onto Windows Phone, saying a WinPho-friendly version is on the way after all.
The latest instalment of the franchise launched on Android and iOS through the week, with initial reports suggesting Windows Phone users would be left out in the cold because it would be too difficult to re-code the title for Microsoft's platform.
“We want to be on all screens, but we have to consider the cost of supplying the smaller platforms,” Rovio executive Peter Vesterbacka told Bloomberg through the week. “With Windows Phone it’s a lot of work to technically support it.”
With Angry Birds the number one download on the Windows Marketplace, it's safe to say the remarks didn't go down too well – maybe the “smaller platform” jibe touched a nerve – but either way Rovio boss Mikael Hed has now stepped in to put WinPho users' minds at rest.
“We are working towards getting Angry Birds Space to WP7,” he told Reuters.
The comments suggest it may be a while still before a Windows Phone-flavoured version of the new release is actually ready. But better late than never.
