Apple now looking for $3 billion from Samsung

Apple now looking for billion from SamsungA few weeks ago, we heard that Apple had been awarded more than $1 billion in damages from Samsung, after moaning about patent infringement to a California court roughly 10 yards from its front door.

Well, Team Cupertino reportedly isn’t happy with the result, and is looking to triple that amount.

That’s the word according to The Korea Times, and an anonymous chap “who asked to be quoted as a ‘reliable source’.” Great stuff.

Anonymous Jim says: “Apple has decided to request the judge to order Samsung to pay more than $3 billion in the hearing on the San Jose verdict on Sept. 21 in California.”

A second source adds: “Apple lawyers still believe Samsung should pull its popular Galaxy line of devices including smartphones and tablets from the United States and leave the market to proprietary handsets from Apple and Microsoft.” Yeah, we can't see that happening, mate.

In any case, this is far from the end of the story, as Samsung has vowed to appeal the decision – whether it’s for $1 billion or $3 billion.

Earlier this week, Judge Lucy Koh rejected Samsung’s motion to overturn the ban on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. I don’t think she likes Samsung.

This isn't news they were always going to look to triple whatever the jury awarded. It's how it works.

Can't wait for Apple to be on the recieving end of a very large claim for something. They are been really petty about all this patent crap. It is putting me off the company, and am starting to hate them.

So, Microsoft making more money in 2011 from Android phones than from their 'own'...that is different? They all do the same in varying manners.

To be fair, MS only made about 54p from their own phones in 2011 ;).

Taxpayer dollars could have been spent a lot more usefully than on a biased court case with a moronic jury which is just going to go to appeal anyway.

Actually last line was news looking back, thought jury said the tablets were in the clear but judge kept block on?

They did.
She did.

They're all f*cking morons. Thank God this utter embarrassment of the legal profession, and those in it, isn't occurring here in the UK.

Oh, and you think MS wouldn't go to court? And some of the money MS gets, is so that people can use MS's services! MS should pay Android and others :p
Also: MS couldn't even integrate hotmail into the WinMo email client. They should sue themselves and settle ...

So we get rid of lawyers, then what? A bunch of morons who don't know anything about the law try and convince an utterly bewildered jury that one of them is correct? Fight it out like animals? Guilty verdict for all accused? That only covers large cases, what about small claims and magistrates courts? Who keeps the Police in check if the lawyers aren't there to defend the innocent (remember, they've not yet been proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt).

Then you get to the boring stuff: family law, contract law, tax law etc. Who's understanding and interpreting those in your lawyer-less society?

Right, so we have no one who understands the law, so why bother with a law at all. Might as well do away with the whole lot, just do whatever we like. I'm sure you'd complain when the first crack head breaks into your house because there's no legal system and therefore no prosecutor to ensure he's locked up for his (not) crime.

Sounds like a plan, I'm going to suggest it at work tomorrow.

Oh, interesting test for you, Treab. Explain how you would, as a prosecutor, go about putting forward an argument that a defendant committed theft. What would he have to have done to have committed theft in England or Wales?
