Did Apple copy the Lumias with the new iPod nanos?

Did Apple copy the Lumias with the new iPod nanos?Alongside the iPhone 5, iOS 6 and new iPod touches (yum), Apple also launched the new iPod nanos on Wednesday night, and you’d be forgiven for thinking that they look a little familiar.

Apple naysayers across the cybernet claim the Californians have balls-out ripped off (or “slavishly copied”, if you want to get dickish) the Lumia 800/900. But did they?

There’s no denying the similarities. There are plenty of images flying around showing the iPod nano and Lumia 800/900 side by side, and they’re easily confused. Well, at a glance, anyway.

Indeed, the Windows Phone diehards at WMPoweruser describe the iPod nano as a “cheap Chinese rip-off of Lumia”. However, their headline is just a tad misleading, almost suggesting that Apple has openly admittted the Lumia influence: "Apple Announces New iPod Inspired By Nokia Lumia Devices". Brilliant.

However, prolific tweeter Stuart Gibson quipped: “What’s that about the Nano looking like the Lumia?” - alongside this image. Amusing stuff, eh?

It’ll be interesting to see if either company comments or makes legal maneuvers, but we reckon it’s probably safe to file this one under “Comedy”.

... Not to mention the size difference and lack of phone qualities.

Too many Apples for one week.

Yeah because if you were looking for inspiration you'd look for things that have sold really badly.

Semi-LOL... everyone kinda praised the hardware design, though ;)

True, the 800 felt very nice in-hand.

Samsung copied Apple, slavishly, I'd say.

Pondlife  Sep. 14, 2012 at 15:39

Nice find, if the software on that samsung is as rough as the slide out stereo speaker one I have then I hope apple didn't copy that too ;)

Looks like a combo of ipod mini, nano 2g/4g and Touch though really.

Sorry, guys... I had a P2. Trust me, it doesn't look, nor feel like a Nano... or anything Apple.
P2 a good player, with nice features, a horrible UI. and crap body/screen. It's also bigger

Does no one else remember the ipod mini? Fair enough it doesn't have the big screen, but the casing. Oh and it was released 2004.

Yes I remember it, no I don't think it resembles the: Lumia, Nano or Samsung in any patent worrying way (because lets face it, this sh*t always ends up in court).

Seeing as I mentioned it above and the nano 2/4g I think they might do
