Now Apple doesn’t like Samsung’s tablet and smartphone cases (sigh)Apple and Samsung are behaving very much like the petulant children of the tech world, repeatedly poking each other and claiming that the other one started it. They’re not the only ones at it, true, but they’re definitely the worst.

There are literally dozens of Apple-Samsung cases (er, legal cases that is) being contested around the globe, and heck – why not throw another one into the mix? Now Apple is unhappy about Samsung’s smartphone and tablet covers.

It’s not entirely clear which cases Apple is pointing the finger at, but at least one is for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, while the others are smartphone covers. Amusingly, the covers are said to infringe on 10 of Apple’s – wait for it – patents. Great stuff.

Funnier still (if I don’t laugh, I’ll cry), Apple’s complaint came at the tail end of a hearing in Australia in which the Californians attempted to delay an entirely unrelated proceeding.

However, Federal Court Justice Annabelle Bennett told Team Cook that the trial for Samsung’s 3G-related complaint will go ahead in March as scheduled, despite Apple’s lawyers pouting and stamping their feet.

Samsung reportedly opted for an early trial in lieu of a temporary injunction against the iPad and iPhone.

A similar trial will take place in the States in May or June next year.

How can you have a patent on a case...

CTPAHHIK  Dec. 21, 2011 at 17:41

It's America - you can have anything.

I think I might move to the US, patent the name "Matt", and then sue everyone with "my", name. Seems possible, US patent laws are an international joke.

didn't someone in the usa try to buy the sun and charge the world for its usage?

thick aint the word...

What about buying land on the moon? If you buy someone has to sell it, who owns it? Would that be US as they are the only ones who visited?

matt101101 / MOD  Dec. 21, 2011 at 18:35

Apple probably think The Moon looks too much like an iPad and would happily provide it with ways in which it could change it's design to rectify this blatant breach of IP ;).

You need to "bite" it on a side to make a trademark.

Are they the Smart Case made by the company run by the nephew of the chairman of Samsung that come in a variety of pastel colours, are held in pace by magnets, put the tablet in stand by when the cover is over the screen and can be folded in 3 to be used as a stand?
Totally different. The Apple ones are called Smart Cover for a start. Couldn't be any less alike.
