iPad Air 2 to rock Apple A8X processor and 2GB of RAM?

iPad Air 2 to rock Apple A8X processor and 2GB of RAM?

Lewis Curdie  Oct. 13 at 14:00

The next generation of iPads is expected to touch down at Apple’s “It’s been too long” launch event on Thursday evening, though we’re still not entirely sure what to expect. How will the iPad Air 2 build upon the entirely capable iPad Air? Is the iPad mini 3 a thing? Is it too early for the iPad Pro? What does “It’s been too long” mean?

For what it’s worth, the latest iPad rumour morsel from Taiwan says the iPad Air 2 will rock an A8X processor, and a meaty 2GB of RAM. Nice.

This week is pretty massive for Apple, as it sees the release of the long-awaited iPhone 6 in 4.7in and 5.5in (“Plus”) flavours. That’s tomorrow.

In the meantime, the Californians have rolled out their latest software update for iPhones, iPads and the latest iPod touch. Say hello to iOS 8.

Apple A8: marginally better than Apple A7

Apple A8: marginally better than Apple A7

Lewis Curdie  Sep. 15 at 14:00

One of the headline features of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus is the spanking new Apple A8 processor, with its 64-bit architecture and M8 motion coprocessor.

The Apple A8 chipset has now been put through its paces, with benchmark scores suggesting it’s – surprise, surprise – a wee bit better than last year’s Apple A7.

Apple iPhone 6 release date: September 19?

It’s widely accepted that the iPhone 6 launch will go down on September 9, but the more pressing question for consumers is: When the hell can I actually buy it?

September 19 is the entirely unsurprising answer from out east, which gels nicely with Apple’s historical launch/release antics.

‘iPhone 5 Battery Replacement Program’: some units officially faulty

‘iPhone 5 Battery Replacement Program’: some units officially faulty

Lewis Curdie  Aug. 23 at 14:00

There’s no shortage of people moaning about iPhone 5 battery life, but there’s a glimmer of hope on the horizon if you’re constantly finding yourself short of juice.

Apple concedes that a small batch of iPhone 5s (that’s iPhone 5 plural as opposed to iPhone 5S) is actually faulty, and potentially eligible for free battery replacement.

iPhone 6’s A8 processor: dual-core but super-fast?

iPhone 6’s A8 processor: dual-core but super-fast?

Lewis Curdie  Jul. 17 at 14:00

To Apple’s credit, it’s never really been one to join in the smartphone spec race. The iPhone’s camera, for example, has technically been 8MP since 2011’s iPhone 4S, with the Californians opting to make the technology better (shock horror) rather than half-heartedly upping the megapixel count.

Similarly, we’re told that the inevitable Apple A8 processor powering the iPhone 6 will be dual-core, same as the A7, A6 and even A5 before it, but with significantly better performance.

Apple’s Q2 2014: .2 billion profit on .6 billion in revenue

Apple’s Q2 2014: $10.2 billion profit on $45.6 billion in revenue

Lewis Curdie  Apr. 24 at 14:00

Wall Street is eating humble pie for breakfast this morning, as Apple posted better-than-expected results for its financial Q2 2014 (that’s Q1 2014 to you and me).

Revenue was up a fair bit from the year-ago figure, outperforming estimates from Wall Street – and even Apple’s own expectations.

Apple sells 500 millionth iPhone, doesn’t say a word

Lewis Curdie  Mar. 26 at 16:00

Apple isn’t shy about blowing its own trumpet, whether it’s celebrating 50 billion app downloads or five years of the App Store.

Oddly, however, Apple has reportedly passed 500 million iPhone sales – and the Californians haven’t said a word.

iPhone 6 specs: just an 8MP camera?

The smartphone camera wars are really heating up, with the Sony Xperia Z2 coming in at 20.7MP, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Zoom reportedly brewing a 20MP snapper, and the Nokia Lumia 1020 sitting at 41MP.

As such, the iPhone 6 will inevitably up its game, taking the megapixel count to a whole new level, right? Uhm…
