While Android flagships have gradually grown in size over the years, the iPhone held steady at 4in before stretching to a potentially jarring 4.7in and 5.5in with this year’s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
If you’re not too happy about all this “bigger is better” nonsense, prepare yourself for a comforting rumour blanket: Apple is tipped to be considering a new 4in iPhone for the second half of next year.
That’s the story according to G For Games, which translates a Chinese whisper from feng.com.
The details are a little vague right now, but the obvious question – for our money – is: where would this 4in iPhone 6S fit into the line-up?
Ideally, Apple would offer the full flagship shebang at several sizes, meaning consumers could get the full - give or take - iPhone 6S experience at 4in and, say, 4.7in and 5.5in again. At present, the 4in iPhone 5s is so last year’s model – literally!
Alas, if the smartphone industry has taught us anything, it’s that smaller phones typically have more modest specs. The G4G guys mention, too, that the smaller iPhone 6S could be targeted primarily at “female users”, hmm.
And heck, it’s not like Apple has had any trouble selling the colossal iPhone 6. That being said, perhaps it could’ve sold even more had there been a smaller option.
Jeez, we’re back and forth here. Only another 10 months or so until we meet the new iPhones, so plenty of time for speculation. In the meantime, let us know how you’d feel about a new top-of-the-range 4in iPhone 6S. Fancy it?
