Do you think Apple will replace my iPad 2 screen for free?

Oh dear. I left the iPad 2 sitting on the corner of the bath, in the bathroom. Baby crawled in and knocked it onto the floor, shattering the screen.
I've heard stories where people take their cracked ipods or iphones into the Apple store and the nice genii in there will fix it or give you a new one for free. Do you think they will do this with my iPad 2? Any tips?

Depends on the store/ Genius/ manager in charge. I've once swayed a friendly Genius into giving me a replacement part for my iMac even though it had slipped out of warranty (albeit an extended one) a few weeks earlier. Accidental damage is definitely not covered here but it isn't impossible to charm a Genius or manager to help you out. Probably less of a gamble would be to check with your home insurance. Good luck either way and I'm sorry for your loss.

In my experience with mobile devices, nobody ever replaces damaged parts for free.

You're lucky it was knocked onto the floor and not in the bath. At least this way, it just needs a new screen.

By the way, steam from a bath can cause liquid damage.

Oh it wasn't in the bathroom while there was bathing happening...

But HUGE sigh of relief now - they gave me a new one for free, and said they wouldn't do that again. They don't fix iPad 2s at all, simply replace them. Normally it's supposed to be half the cost of a new model.

But their service is excellent in that they just gave me a brand new one. Happy!

Wow. That's just fantastic.
I'll say this for Apple. Their service is second to none.
Unless you hold them the wrong way of course :p

Hmmm... I wonder if this'll work with my MacBook Pro... Nah just kidding :p Congrats! Looks like there's a happy ending after all.
