We’re still waiting for official word from Apple about, well, anything to do with the iPhone 5, but in the meantime “sources close to the situation” have whispered to All Things Digital that the unveiling will go down on October 4.
The sources add that the iPhone 5 will go on sale “within a few weeks of the event”. That pretty much ties in with various sites’ assertion that the iPhone 5 will be released in mid-October.
The anonymous informants neglected to dish any more dirt; all we have to go on is the date. Of course, we’re all expecting a dual-core A5 chip, 8MP camera and 4in display.
The event will also be notable as the first of its kind to be headed by new Apple CEO Timothy “Tim” Cook. Phillip “Phil” Schiller, Scott “Scotty” Forstall and Edward “Eddy” Cue are expected to back him up.
It’s not clear if Steven “Steve” Jobs will make an appearance now that he’s officially in the background. On the one hand, it’d be weird if he didn’t. On the other hand, it’d potentially undermine Tim’s debut as the big cheese. Too many Cooks spoil the broth. Or something.
