AppleCare+ hits the UK, £79 to cover your iPhone or iPad for two years, excess charge applies

AppleCare+ hits the UK, £79 to cover your iPhone or iPad for two years, excess charge appliesIt’s all go on the Apple site at the moment, with changes made to reflect the now-official iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, and tons of info on iOS 7, which rolls out next week.

AppleCare+ has also quietly been added, giving you the option to cover your beloved iDevice for two years from the date of purchase, and some other stuff I’ll write about below.

There are three independent AppleCare+ plans we’re interested in here, specifically one for iPod, one for iPhone, and one for iPad.

The iPod AppleCare+ plan (which includes the iPod touch and Classic) is the cheapest, at £49. There’s an excess fee of £25 each for “up to two incidents of accidental damage from handling”, so don't go thinking you can throw your iDevice around willy nilly.

Moving on to the iPhone AppleCare+ plan, it’s a wee bit more expensive at £79, with the excess fee sitting at £55. The iPad AppleCare+ plan is also £79, but the excess is a little lower at £39. Again, you're allowed two incidents of clumsiness.

In any case, you’re also getting “expert technical support”, for things like iCloud and connecting to wireless networks. Yep, you'd be surprised how many people struggle with things like using Wi-Fi.

And uhm, that’s about the size of it. AppleCare+, available now in the UK. Go wild.

I've not looked into it, but I'm sure there's better value insurance out there, especially if you get it for free with a bank account you're already paying for.

Or for iPads (and other tablets/tech devices) if you buy from John Lewis you get a two year warranty as standard

Does that cover accidental damage?
