So, remember the Archos Child Pad tablet designed especially 4 kidz that we wrote about all of three months ago? Course you do.
You'll also no doubt know that those hordes of tab-hungry sprogs have inexplicably been kept waiting all this time thanks to Archos announcing the Child Pad, then pretty much doing nothing at all since then. Well, seems like the wait is over, and the Child Pad is ready to go! Again!
As Lewis correctly scribed back in March, the Child Pad comes with a 7in display, a 1GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich – complete with Archos own kid-friendly Kids App Store. The likes of Angry Birds and Pig Rush are among the 28 pre-loaded games.
Or possibly 29, by the looks of things, as it seems part of the reason for the delay (or possibly just the beneficiary, assuming the far more likely scenario that it's actually some Android ICS-related jiggery pokery that's behind the three-month go-slow) is the shoehorning in of some “special” content from Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, which includies a behind-the-scenes clip and online game.
Just imagine enjoying all of that on a gadget called the Child Pad, which of course stands apart from all the other Android tablets in town thanks to its chunky plastic chassis. All yours for £99 – or at least it will be once it officially goes on sale. Seems ridiculous to say it but we're still waiting on official UK confirmation on just what the dealio is regarding local availability.
