Jan never had any marbles to start with

I'm not buying either. Actually, I think I may have "gone off" the whole smartphone thing. I'm happy with my S2, it still does everything an iPhone 5/SGS3 does and it was so long ago that I bought it, it seems like it's free as I just pay my £10 per month to T-Mob for my SIM and the phone was bought outright nearly 18 months ago.

I think the sky is falling in

It is. The apocalypse is coming.

I am in a similar position. I'm still curious about the 920 etc etc... but I can't see myself paying another penny in the foreseeable future.
It must be exciting if you are new to smartphones, or can just now afford a highend phone for the first time, but I feel like very little happened in the last 12 months+

I'm also more conscious of my actual usage...
I actually looked at oldish non-smart devices with decent enough cams and good batteries.
You know...the kind of phones we used to use, before THEY started using us ;)

Matt and Jan, if your current phone broke next month and wasn't repairable which one do you think you'd buy? Same phone again or would having to buy one change the perspective a bit?

Good question....
Right NOW, I wouldn't know, and would probably go for some rubbish.
I like a decent camera, and an OS that can run Opera MIni (my part of Ireland has a lot of sh*tty 2.5G)...
Would I buy another N9? Probably not. Excellent phone, but Nokia cannot be ar*ed to deliver proper support. And though I 'live with' the bugs and quirks happily now, a €400 + device SHOULD NOT have them.
I wouldn't buy any Android. And I can't think of a QWERTY device with a good camera...

LOL I guess I should hunt down an N95 :p

So there... Maybe another Pre 3. For £100 it's a good compromise and I now know not to use a micro-sim adapter with them ;)

I'd probably get an iPhone 5 as it'd be a good phone to use but would depreciate slowly so I could sell it with little financial loss when something I actually wanted was released. Or is that counted as cheating in your scenario?

If it does count as cheating, I'd probably get an SGS3. It seems like an extremely competent device, which I could and would happily use everyday if my S2 was taken away from me. Buying an S2 for ~£330-340 makes no sense when you can pick up an S3 for ~£400.

In all honesty though, I think I'll wait for MWC 2013 and hope that brings more features than this year's did. Maybe the SGS4 will be my next device, by then there may actually be something my S2 can't do which I want it to, which other, newer devices can do.

Pondlife  Sep. 14, 2012 at 19:58

Nope doesn't count as cheating at all, it's totally valid. Was just curious. Definitely see your point about s2 pricing v s3 too. Though not sure I could use s3

Maybe rim will rescue us all with something totally unexpected pfft :{

matt101101 / MOD  Sep. 14, 2012 at 20:31

I've never wanted a BB before and I don't see why BB10 will change that. I haven't used an S3 for long enough to say if it's okay day to day, but I didn't have a problem with it in the shop and millions of people seem to be fine with theirs.

Pondlife  Sep. 14, 2012 at 21:03

Yeah I don't see it as likely, I did say totally unexpected. :)
Millions are fine with the Note, but I know that's totally too big as far as I'm concerned.

Many more millions have bought the S3, though :p.

Anyway, there's still nothing I want to buy and I'm happy about it (well, as happy as the world's most cynical, sarcastic b*stard ever is).
