Asus ME172V $99 tablet contender gets snapped

Asus ME172V tablet contender gets snappedWe’ve been talking a fair bit about the Asus ME172V of late, not because it sounds particularly awesome, but because it’s threatening to claim the much-hyped $99 tablet crownand Nexus branding.

Now we gots a handful of suitably modest Asus ME172V pics to go with the decidedly modest specs.

We’re thanking Stalin and Mussolini here (uhm, some Russian retailer and Notebook Italia), though the Asus ME172V pics are very much of the unofficial leaky type.

The Asus ME172V pics give next to nothing away, save for promising both black and white models.

Rumoured Asus ME172V specs include a 7in display (1024 x 600), 1GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and Jelly Bean (Android 4.1).

On closer inspection, the Notebook Italia leak appears to detail a slightly different tablet, codenamed ME371MG. Asus ME371MG specs include a 7in IPS display (1280 x 800), 1.2GHz Intel Atom Z2420 processor, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage.

We’d recommend fairly liberal amounts of salt, particularly with regards to the Asus ME371MG, though don’t be surprised if we meet one or both at CES 2013 in a few weeks.
