Asus Nexus 7 fuels iPad mini fire

Asus Nexus 7 fuels iPad mini fireThe Asus Nexus 7 is finally here, and looks set to dominate the 7in tablet market with a sexy price tag, international availability, and full access to the Android Market – or “Google Play” as we’re s’posed to call it.

And that’s the end of that, right? Well, not if Apple has anything to say about it. Yeah, those iPad mini rumours are back.

With the Asus Nexus 7 weighing in at £159 and £199 (8GB/16GB), pretty much half the price of the iPad 2 and third gen iPad respectively, some suggest that Apple has to launch a budget iPad mini.

Or does it? Another train of thought is that the pricey iPad and its budget 7in rivals can coexist. After all, they’re massively different products at massively different price points.

Also, Apple isn’t exactly renowned for pandering to those with modest wallets. Its idea of a budget smartphone is the iPhone 3GS at £319. Incidentally, it’s three years old this month.

Having said that, there are rumours that the iPad mini is already in production, with a Q3 launch being touted. Heck, even Samsung seems to believe it’s inevitable.

Yada yada... I doubt too many folks ponder as to whether they should get a 7in Asus or an iPad.
I see this as a defence against the Fire (and the Nook in the USA).... Mainly.

True for their PCs, but the iPhone and iPad are priced relatively reasonably. It's only on contract that you get robbed blind buying either of them.
