Apple stunned the world (slight exaggeration) when it revealed the Smart Cover’s magnet-flavoured goodness. Close the cover, and the iPad’s display locks. Open it back up, and you’re good to go. Smooth.
Now it appears that the Asus Nexus 7 might feature the same functionality, if a cheeky video is anything to go by.
Said video (posted on YouTube, natch) features 27 exhilarating seconds of some guy rubbing a magnet across the Asus Nexus 7’s display. It’s like porn for tablet lovers.
When the magnet is positioned in the bottom left, the Asus Nexus 7’s display locks. Take the magnet away and – you guessed it – the display unlocks. Magic.
There is an official Asus Nexus 7 cover listed on Google Play, though it’s not clear if it’ll have an embedded magnet to trigger the Smart Cover-style auto-lock.
If that is the case (pun intended), we imagine Apple will have something to say about it.
Finally, not really related to this story, but I’m reminded of Samsung’s Smart Case (yes, Smart Case). Remember it? Genius.
