Asus by the numbers: 4, 5 and 6in smartphones to be unveiled at CES 2014

Asus by the numbers: 4, 5 and 6in smartphones to be unveiled at CES 2014The Consumer Electronics Show – or CES as most people call it – starts in Las Vegas next week, and true to form Asus seems to have a stack of new digital gizmos ready to unveil.

A new teaser ad for its CES 2014 offerings suggests in no uncertain terms that the company is readying a trio of smartphones to go with the dual-boot tablet hinted at in an earlier video promo last week.

Being a teaser, of course, Asus didn't come out and say as much outright, but it's the only conclusion that makes any sense.

The ad sees a deluge of multicoloured bouncing balls falling from the heavens, much to the surprise of unsuspecting folk going about their everyday business in Taipei.

Each ball has a number printed on it – 4, 5 or 6 – and with each bounce comes the distinct sound of a phone dialler button being pressed.

It's fairly obvious stuff, especially with CES 2014 specifically namechecked at the end complete with the slogan “In search of incredible”.

It's not a bad ad, reminding us a fair bit of Sony's Bravia ads from a couple of years back but not to the point where Asus looks like it's copying. As for the smartphone trio heading for CES, bring it on.

It's Asus though. They have no heritage in phones & the padfone concept just doesn't work or relate to the market at all.

Unless they've got devices competing with the Moto G then i don't see the reason for them to carry on with mobile. They should focus their efforts on the entry tablet market with the Nexus line.
