Asus Padfone 2 launching October 16

Asus Padfone 2 launching October 16We thought we were pretty much done with all these product launches (it’s been a crazy few weeks), and were reluctantly about to settle into pre-CES hibernation.

However, Taiwanese manufacturer Asus still has a cheeky treat up its sleeve. It’s holding a launch party – two parties, in fact – for the Asus Padfone 2 on October 16. Boom!

Asus’ save-the-date thingy shows just a tiny corner of the smartphone component, and tells us to leave Tuesday October 16 free. Simultaneous launch parties will go down in Milan and Taipei.

Not a great deal is known about the Asus Padfone 2, other than the suggestion that it’ll rock a quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor.

The original Asus Padfone turned heads as a fairly outrageous smartphone/tablet/netbook hybrid, with a 4.3in handset, 10.1in tablet “shell” (requiring the smartphone to operate), and keyboard dock.

Jonney Shih explained: "The time has finally arrived when every screen in your lives could transcend into a portal with real time access into your digital world." Er…

Back in March, we asked: Asus Padfone: experiment in madness or the future of mobile? The consensus? Well, a bit of both. In any case, we don’t know a single person who bought one. Did you?

It's a bit as if Acer announced a new Iconia Smart phone... Where's the first one? Huh?

Only in India, if the web reviews are anything to go by.
