Asus Padfone out next month, launch due at MWC

Asus Padfone out next month, launch due at MWCRemember when the Motorola Atrix launched last year with an advertising campaign telling us it was the most powerful smartphone in the world? That Lapdock was a great idea in principle - if not a little premature with the design.

Still, we love something a little bit different at Mobot Towers - which is why Asus' latest gadget has really caught our eye, and the good news is that Asus' forthcoming Padfone is, apparently, going to be arriving at MWC next month in Barcelona.

Asus has revealed the welcome news at CES 2012 in Las Vegas, and while that's bad news for the 150,000-odd in attendance in Nevada, it's good news for us, and reinforces our story on this a few months back.

If you're not familiar with it, the Padfone is a cool concept where a quad-core Tegra 3-powered smartphone slots into a tablet dock, instantly giving you a massive screen. Simples.

Not much else is known about the device other than the phone bit will be 4.3-inches and the tablet a little larger at 10.1-inches. It'll almost certainly be running Android though whether it's Gingerbread or Ice Cream Sandwich is too vague to call right now.

That'll all be squared away in due course, and the really great news is that for once, we come first. Yup, Asus will bring the Padfone to the UK initially. Hear that America? Get in line!

I wonder if Acer were inspired by Asus or vice versa? Or if it's just an obvious idea (methinks so...). Still, retain a lawfirm now.
