We first met the Asus PadFone waaaaay back in May 2011, and the smartphone-tablet hybrid was in attendance at CES in Vegas a few weeks ago.
Now we’re told that the Asus PadFone will finally get an official unveiling – nine months after first popping up – at Mobile World Congress next month. Er, we kinda knew that already, but we like nattering on about it.
The Asus PadFone is comprised of a 4.3in smartphone and a 10.1in tablet shell thingy. Y’see, the tablet can only fully function by shoving the smartphone component inside; essentially you’re magnifying the display.
Other than that, details are thin on the proverbial ground. There’s talk of a quad-core Tegra 3 processor, but some suggest it’ll be a SnapDragon S4 effort. Hmm. As for Gingerbread (Android 2.3) or Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0); that’s anyone’s guess.
In any case, we’ll find out for sure in Barcelona in a few weeks. February 27 is the date to mark in your diary; that’s the day Mobile World Congress officially opens its doors.
