The Asus PadFone smartphone/tablet hybrid is the joke that just keeps on giving. First we laughed at the original Asus PadFone, raised our eyebrows when they followed up with the PadFone 2, and now we’re well and truly astounded to meet the third entry in the series.
I speak of the Asus PadFone Infinity, and – as you might expect – it grabs the baton from the PadFone 2 and ups the specs in almost every way.

Asus contemplating PadFone action for Windows 8
You all know the Asus PadFone, right? The thing with the smartphone component and the tablet shell that’s powered by said smartphone when the pair are docked together?

The original Asus Padfone took so long to hit shelves, and did such a great job of slinking into the shadows, that many of you were surprised to hear that a successor was confirmed. Was the original even released? It was indeed.
The official Asus Padfone 2 launch is scheduled for tomorrow, October 16, and in the meantime a selection of purportedly official renders has leaked.

Asus Padfone 2 specs leaked ahead of October unveiling?
The original Asus Padfone is currently going for £689.99, with the keyboard dock, over at Expansys. Bargain (says the guy who spent £700 on an iPhone 5). I wonder if anyone in the country bought one.
In any case, Asus has told us to leave October 16 free for the Padfone 2 launch, and – surprise, surprise – the specs have now been leaked in advance. Well, supposedly.

Asus Padfone 2 launching October 16
We thought we were pretty much done with all these product launches (it’s been a crazy few weeks), and were reluctantly about to settle into pre-CES hibernation.
However, Taiwanese manufacturer Asus still has a cheeky treat up its sleeve. It’s holding a launch party – two parties, in fact – for the Asus Padfone 2 on October 16. Boom!

Asus confirms European prices for PadFone and new Transformers
Asus has donned its best suit and popped along to Milan Design Week 2012 to reveal the pricing for a host of new goodies.
European prices – and Italian release dates – for the Asus PadFone, Transformer Pad Infinity 700 and Transformer Pad 300 have all been confirmed.

After four days and what feels like a lifetime of grueling 10-hour shifts, Mobile World Congress 2012 is almost over.
As the world’s phone and tablet manufacturers (minus Apple, of course) begin to tear down their many, many stalls (there’s a genuinely ludicrous number of companies here), it’s time for the obligatory review of the show. Best Mobile World Congress ever or waste of freakin’ time?
