Asus Transformer Prime Can Have Windows 7 and Microsoft Office

Asus Transformer Prime Can Have Windows 7 and Microsoft Office

Joe Hindy  Mar. 6 at 17:30

Android tablets, and just tablets in general, have been blurring the line between mobile devices and everyday computers since the first tablets were introduced. Each new generation can do more things, has more power and comes ever closer to being able to all but replace a computer. In some cases, you could actually put a computer operating system on an Android device and have your own little touch computer experience.

One of those cases is the Asus Transformer Prime. Using a nifty application and signing up for a free online service called OnLive, you can have a full Windows 7 desktop experience with a few useful Windows applications, including Microsoft Office, at your disposal.

Samsung Jigs in 45 Countries

Samsung Jigs in 45 Countries

Joe Hindy  Mar. 2 at 11:30

The Samsung jig is one of those accessories that everyone should not only know about, but everyone should have unbridled access to. They can do magical things to Samsung devices, like force them into Download or Odin Mode so users can flash stock firmware and unbrick their Samsung phones. On some, they remove a certain disgusting yellow triangle from several Samsung phones that have them. But unfortunately for some people, Samsung jigs are only available online and that presents a very big problem for those without PayPal accounts, bank accounts or debit cards.

Just because someone may have an understandable distrust for things like banks and online money mediating services, such as PayPal, doesn't mean that they don't deserve help when they need it. That is the premise for a list that has been compiled where volunteers give up their names and locations so anyone in their area can swing by and use their USB jig free of charge.

HTC Desire HD: Get Sony XLoud Engine

HTC Desire HD: Get Sony XLoud Engine

Joe Hindy  Feb. 23 at 12:30

The HTC Desire HD is getting a little old, but that doesn't mean it isn't receiving development love from the community. One of the more recent modifications to the aging Android phone is the porting of the Sony XLoud Engine. For many who don't know, the Sony XLoud Engine is an audio enhancement engine that allows for clearer, louder and higher quality audio in a very similar manner to Beats Audio. The difference being, of course, that you can actually get Sony XLoud on your HTC Desire HD.

Barnes & Noble Nook Color: Triple Booting

Barnes & Noble Nook Color: Triple Booting

Joe Hindy  Feb. 22 at 09:30

This triple booting tutorial is mainly for Mobotniks in the US, for anyone who has bought a Nook Color.

Being able to dual boot an Android device is pretty freaking awesome. You can use the separate installations to hide your second life or you can use it for more socially acceptable practices, such as having one installation for work and one for play. So, what does that say about triple booting? Without knowing anything about triple booting at all, one can assume that it is at least 150% more awesome than dual booting...

For those Mobotniks out there who are rocking a Barnes and Noble Nook Color, triple booting can be a reality for you. The process is a little tough, but if you follow it out you can boot not just one, not two but three separate installations from the spunky little tablet.

HTC Evo 3D: You May Still Be Able to Get Root

HTC Evo 3D: You May Still Be Able to Get Root

Joe Hindy  Feb. 21 at 20:00

Unfortunately for some HTC EVO 3D owners, getting rooted isn't as easy as we all would like it to be. If you're rocking an hboot version that is 1.5 or higher, then you can only get fake root through the htcdev.com website, but not the full s-off, bootloader unlocked root that we'd all rather have. Of course, that doesn't mean that there aren't people working on that.

Well, Mobotniks, if you're rocking an HTC Evo 3D and you're on Vodaphone, there's a chance that you may yet be able to achieve full root with relative ease as there has been a method uncovered that will allow people to downgrade from the 1.5 hboot and achieve full s-off goodness.

Access Your Android Phone From a Web Browser

Access Your Android Phone From a Web Browser

Joe Hindy  Feb. 18 at 19:00

There are a number of solutions for connecting your Android phone to your computer. There's the USB connection and various iterations of so-called pro software by manufacturers. You know them as Kies, Kies Air, HTC Sync, etc., and, if you've had the guts to attempt to use them, you know what enormous epic failures they can be.

Thankfully, there is someone out there who wants to do the whole Android phone to PC connection thing correctly and is currently developing what is probably one of the coolest applications I've ever used. It is called Paw and it is available for download on the Android Market.

Android: 5 Tips That Actually Save Battery Life

Android: 5 Tips That Actually Save Battery Life

Joe Hindy  Feb. 16 at 20:00

If anyone were to Google search about how to save precious minutes on the battery life on their Android phone, they'd come across at least a 100 articles, blogs, etc that believe that they have the authority and knowledge to say, for sure, what kills battery. The problem is that these guides are often conflicting and, like Britain's Got Talent, leaves us wondering about how they could do this to us. Also, unlike Britain's Got Talent, it leaves us wanting to know more.

Well, fellow Mobotniks, this is where the contradictions end. Below are five tips that have been proven to work in decreasing the amount of battery life required to make it through an average day and help Android phones all over the place make it from sunrise to sunset without needing that midday charge. If only there were energy drinks for Android phones without that 2pm feeling.

Android: Log In and Out of Various Installations of Android

Android: Log In and Out of Various Installations of Android

Joe Hindy  Feb. 15 at 17:30

Some of us, for whatever reason, could use a second installation of Android on our phones in order to have a little fun. For most people, it's keeping work life and home life separate. For some, it could be one installation for that secret family that lives in Cardiff that you never bothered to tell your London family about. Maybe some people are secret agents for an unnamed agency who just want to keep their normal Android phone for both life and work. I wish I fell into that last category.

So, while humming the tune to the immortal Secret Agent Man by Johnny Rivers, we shall run a tutorial on installing a fun little application called SwitchMe and get our fellow Mobotniks the privacy they so deserve.

Samsung Galaxy S2: Removing the Yellow Triangle

Samsung Galaxy S2: Removing the Yellow Triangle

Joe Hindy  Feb. 14 at 17:30

As per request from the Mobotniks, we follow up our Removal of the Yellow Triangle from the Galaxy Note with a method to get rid of it for the Samsung Galaxy S2. It’s a tad more difficult for the Samsung Galaxy S2 and I would say why, but it involves a bunch of technical jargon. Suffice it to say that there are two hidden boot partitions on the Samsung Galaxy S2 that nobody knew about until Ice Cream Sandwich.

While anyone can easily Google search how to rid their Samsung Galaxy S2 of the ugliest little triangle known to man, this tutorial contains an additional feature that those others do not. It will also reset your flash counter. Thought to be only possible with a USB jig, it is now possible to not only rid yourself of the triangle, but reset your flash counter to zero. Take that, other blogs!

Moto Defy: Dual Booting

Moto Defy: Dual Booting

Joe Hindy  Feb. 9 at 14:30

Today's tutorial is going to be easier than most. It could be because it's on the Moto Defy, it could be because I said so. In any case, today we're going make your Moto Defy dual boot.

Dual booting can be a lot of fun and has a lot of great uses. You can use it to test ROMs you wouldn't normally install. You can use it to impress your friends. You can definitely use it to keep a separate set of contacts, apps and emails so you can continue living that double life. 007 style. The process is much more simple than most and really only requires a keen ability to read and follow directions.

Samsung Galaxy Note: Remove the Yellow Triangle

Samsung Galaxy Note: Remove the Yellow Triangle

Joe Hindy  Feb. 8 at 13:30

The Samsung Galaxy Note, like many other Samsung Galaxy phones, is pretty easy to root. Usually it requires flashing a kernel with a custom recovery over Odin, then flashing Superuser in recovery. This doesn't mean that Samsung doesn't want to know about it though, and the phone will respond by placing a very ugly, very low definition yellow triangle on the boot screen when you turn the phone on.

This yellow triangle is annoying and aesthetically not pleasing. It might not be so bad if it were in a higher resolution, but that little, seemingly 16 bit triangle makes an otherwise beautiful Samsung Galaxy Note look cheap(er). If only for a few seconds.

So today, we're going to use a nice, easy hack to get rid of that ugly little triangle and give you the proper instructions to make sure it stays gone using a method that does not involve one of those nifty USB jigs... If only it had been that easy to get rid of George W Bush.

From Android to iPhone...

From Android to iPhone...

Joe Hindy  Feb. 6 at 17:30

Today's tutorial is going to deal with turning your coveted Android phone (be it an HTC Desire Z  or a Samsung Galaxy Note), into an iPhone.  We're not talking literally of course, as installing iOS on Android is currently impossible, but we have lined up 11 applications that will make your Android look and feel like the real deal - from Android to iPhone! This isn't a hack per say, as it's just installing a bunch of Android applications from the Market, but with all the time spent finding them, it might as well be a hack.

Why would someone want to do this? Many people enjoy the iPhone's clean, easy to use interface. Some people just hate Android that much. A few might even like Apple, who knows? Sometimes, it's just worth doing it for the bragging rights. In any case, by the end of this tutorial, your Android device will be sparkling with the simplistic dazzle of iOS.

Patch to Fix GPS on Desire Z, Wildfire S, Galaxy S2 and Many More

Patch to Fix GPS on Desire Z, Wildfire S, Galaxy S2 and Many More

Joe Hindy  Feb. 5 at 20:30

Sometimes the GPS on mobile phones just doesn't work correctly and no amount of praying to the GPS gods will ever help. Believe it, it's been tried. There's nothing less convenient than the otherwise pleasant voice of the GPS lady telling you to make that left hand turn a quarter of a mile before you're actually supposed to do it.

Well Mobotniks, there is a solution for that. A nifty patch that, when applied, has the capacity to double the number of GPS satellites your phone links up to and, once it's been running for awhile, can reduce the time for an accurate GPS lock by nearly half. Double of anything in half the time is always good thing.

Install Ubuntu/Lubuntu on Samsung Galaxy S2

Joe Hindy  Feb. 4 at 15:30

Today we're going to give you the up and up on how to install Ubuntu or Lubuntu on your Samsung Galaxy S2. Will this be a difficult task? Yes, a little bit, but together we're gonna get that Linux love running your Galaxy S2 in no time.

To get started, you'll need to be rooted. If you're not, then this simply will not work, so we're going to assume you're using a rooted Samsung Galaxy S2 in the first place.
