Any way to avoid the £10 top up for PAYG phone?

Going to buy the Orange San Diego tomorrow. On sale for £100 at EE but I have to buy a Tenner top up on top of that. Any way I can avoid it? Also, I'd appreciate some info on the San Diego. Are there any downsides to it? Thanks

Having a phone on orange already?
Biggest downside is locked to orange/tmobile/virgin.
Next is bootlocked, the xolo ics is very good and can delete the unnecessary apps easy enough thought. JB was expected but not sure it's still going to get it.

Cheers for that Pondlife, I think ICS is good enough for me. Much better looking than gingerbread tbh

You have to be already Orange customer.

You have to be already Orange customer.
Or find someone who'll lend you an Orange SIM card for the day/buy the phone for you using their Orange SIM card and you just pay them back/give them the money.
