Ballmer: more Microsoft hardware on the way

Ballmer: more Microsoft hardware on the wayMicrosoft’s Surface tablet has the potential to upset its Windows 8 partners (hi, Acer), and Team Ballmer admitted as much in a document submitted to the Securities and Exchange Commission a few months back.

However, that clearly hasn’t deterred the software giant any, as big bold Ballmer is promising more Microsoft hardware.

The words come from a BBC interview with the Microsoft boss, just hours ahead of the Windows 8 “celebration” in New York.

Ballmer tells the Beeb: "Is it fair to say we're going to do more hardware? Obviously we are... Where we see important opportunities to set a new standard, yeah we'll dive in."

The first Microsoft Surface is yet to hit shelves (the RT model is released tomorrow), however we’re already hearing word of a Microsoft Surface 2.

And of course there are those incessant Microsoft Surface smartphone rumours, too. Now that’d really put a smile on Nokia’s face.

Microsoft has a busy few days ahead. As well as today’s Windows 8 launch party and tomorrow’s Surface release, we’re invited to “Meet Windows Phone 8” on Monday. Finally.

Most people don't read, they just buy what everyone else is buying. If MS phone sells well, I'm sure Nokia would mind. Especially if they even can't make the hardware:
"On the other hand, Microsoft is reportedly tapping ODM maker Pegatron for the production of WP8-based smartphones slated for launch in the first half of 2013, the sources indicated." http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20121004PD201.html

Is Pegatron the third upgrade on the decepticons leader?

Pegatron and Asus (and a third) were once one company.

Yeah I googled that ;) Pegatron now have control of the third bit too. They made the surface which is likely why rumoured to be making the phone version I guess.

How so? There's been very few hardware grumbles that aren't down to the stupid choice of SoC. Supposedly, in terms of physical form, it's one of the nicest devices on the market.

Wouldn't mind seeing a matching phone to be honest, though I'm not sure I'd buy it (not sure I'm buying the tablet either - all depends on Surface Pro's price and battery life).

Because in the abstract the ideas seemed good but the execution has been poor, a built in stand seemed a good idea, but at one fixed angle. The keyboard cover that can't really be used on a lap, stuttering software...

... I was gonna say something. but really - I mustn't. I've grown fond of this job :p

We'll digress then, did you see rumours that LG is working on a WebOS device, video box thing though rather than a phone?
