Microsoft’s Surface tablet has the potential to upset its Windows 8 partners (hi, Acer), and Team Ballmer admitted as much in a document submitted to the Securities and Exchange Commission a few months back.
However, that clearly hasn’t deterred the software giant any, as big bold Ballmer is promising more Microsoft hardware.
The words come from a BBC interview with the Microsoft boss, just hours ahead of the Windows 8 “celebration” in New York.
Ballmer tells the Beeb: "Is it fair to say we're going to do more hardware? Obviously we are... Where we see important opportunities to set a new standard, yeah we'll dive in."
The first Microsoft Surface is yet to hit shelves (the RT model is released tomorrow), however we’re already hearing word of a Microsoft Surface 2.
And of course there are those incessant Microsoft Surface smartphone rumours, too. Now that’d really put a smile on Nokia’s face.
Microsoft has a busy few days ahead. As well as today’s Windows 8 launch party and tomorrow’s Surface release, we’re invited to “Meet Windows Phone 8” on Monday. Finally.
