Jan couldn’t resist relaying this news in the wee hours last night, with an accompanying cat meme of course. Now it’s down to me to formalise the story with, like, words and stuff.
Essentially, the reported BBM iOS/Android release date of June 27 is incorrect. Here’s hopin’ you marked your diary in pencil, kids.
What happened is, see, T-Mobile jumped the gun, with a tweet announcing June 27 as the landing date for BBM on Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android.
However, Canadian manufacturer BlackBerry has issued a statement, condemning T-Mobile’s recklessness (not really).
"On May 14, BlackBerry announced plans to make its ground-breaking mobile social network, BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), available to iOS and Android users this summer, subject to approval by the Apple App Store and Google Play," begins the BlackBerry statement.
"While there have been reports that BBM will be available to iOS and Android on June 27, this is not accurate. We will communicate an update as soon as we have an availability date to share."
Yesterday, we relayed the news that BBM might come preloaded on some Android devices, which would certainly help in the battle against ultra-popular instant messaging service Whatsapp.
