Can you use BBM purely over Wi-Fi?
Could you use BBM in a BlackBerry that doesn't have data or a SIM??

My Bold 9900 acted a bit strangely when there was no SIM inside, but yes, generally speaking you can use it just with WiFi. However: initially, to set up the BB, you do need a valid SIM card in the phone.

You need a SIM card when you first set up your BB and/or BBM. BIS is network specific. YOU pay your network for a Blackberry add-on! (except for the new Blackberry 10 devices - Z10 and Q10). So, there is no way to setup any services that use BIS without a SIM! You may be able to use 3rd party applications such as Opera Mini etc via WiFi without setting up your phone first. But get a fr*gging SIM, already ![]()
