How big is iOS 5?

How much space does iOS 5 take up? I don't have much room left on my iPhone 3GS!

It's about 500mb, same as all iOS updates, AFAIK. Saying that, it'll overwrite your original OS version, so it won't take up extra space (or if it does it'll be a matter of a few mb, nothing too huge).

OP, I'd take Blizzard's word over mine, I was just making an educated guess using past iOS versions as a reference point. Still, that means you'll only need an extra 250mb of space, which isn't a lot.

i dunno matt. if you had an 8gb iphone 4 its a huge increase ;)

750mb out of 8gb thats an extra 50% increase thats 9% of the hard drive :p

On the other hand, if you bought an 8gb iPhone 4, you must be clinically insane, due to the cost. Still, most people can spare 250mb, especially if they realise all the advantages iOS 5 brings, "borrowed", from Android, WP7 & BB or not ;).

they must be around matt... apple must be selling the 8gb 3gs at 329 a 2 year old phone otherwise why would they continue to sell it... lol

I don't doubt they're selling, Apple are far from stupid, I just doubt the sanity of those purchasing them ;).

I'm feeling good, back at work this week, which is nice :).

I'm far from an Apple fanboy, but I appreciate the goodness iOS 5 is bringing, shame I can't update my iPod Touch 2nd gen to iOS 5 :(.

OK - I've updated to iOS5 on my 16Gb iPhone 3GS and had to delete a couple of albums to make room for it. I had 1Gb of space free before the update and was told I was 0.5Gb over as the update was being done...
And as for people being insane for buying the 8Gb version... you buy what you can and use the phone as you can. Not insane. I went for the 16Gb because I couldn't afford the 32Gb.. same reasoning; but I don't expect the OS to take up more than 1Gb (and that's after restoring to a previous back-up)
