BlackBerry 10 smartphones to use Snapdragon S4 Pro processors?

BlackBerry 10 smartphones to use Snapdragon S4 Pro processors? We recently heard that RIM has settled on the resolutions for its BlackBerry 10 devices, namely 1280 x 720 (16:9) for all touchscreen, and 720 x 720 (1:1) for QWERTY handsets. Oh, and 1280 x 768 for the very first device.

Not a great deal else is known when it comes to BlackBerry 10 specs, but now we’re hearing rumours of some sexy processor action.

The whispers come via BlackBerryOS, and an anonymous “reliant source” who reckons the first BlackBerry 10 handsets will rock Qualcomm's S4 Pro MSM8960T processor.

If true, that’s undoubtedly good news for BlackBerry 10. The presence of the Adreno 320 GPU makes the chip ideal for HD stuff, multitasking, and gaming – something not typically associated with BlackBerry phones.

Incidentally, the Snapdragon S4 Pro is set to debut in an as yet unnamed LG handset, scheduled to hit the market (well, Korea, anyway) next month. It’s said to be prettaaaaay nifty.

As for the first BlackBerry 10 handset, we’re told to expect an all touch device in January 2013, with a QWERTY offering following soon after. I’m actually really interested to see how these chaps turn out.

Adreno GPUs are terrible compared to their competitors. This has been the case right back to the Adreno 200 on the Snapdragon S1 SoC, the GPU on the Exynos 3110 (then called "Hummingbird") was far more powerful. Also, multitasking has little to do with the GPU, it has far more to do with how much RAM the device has to keep programs open and how much CPU power it has to allow those programs to perform tasks in the background.
