I’ve been reading about Android viruses. Do BlackBerry phones get them too?

There are no Android viruses. It is malware that is causing a minor issue with Android. There have also been phone-related issuses (few cases) with dodgy sms/email attachments.
If you stick to apps from official sources and reputable developers, and you do not visit dodgy websites, you are safe. Currently l, anyway. The first real virus attack may well come in a week or a year. Right now there is nothing you can do - even the security apps that are out there would not have protected you against the malware apps that struck Android (anti-virus software is major-league Big Business. Scaring you is what they do really well).
Blackberry's are even (relatively) safer due to the compression and encryption used by BB's servers.
Not saying you can't run into probs in the future, but right now? Nah. Avoid opening sms from unknown senders. Do not ever enter a competition by sms. Common safety
But, do not take my word ==>> http://www.brighthub.com/computing/smb-security/articles/46651.aspx
