Why do I get blank txt messages on Orange?

I keep getting weird txt msgs on my HTC Desire. It’s a new phone on Orange. The messages are from d@, and they’re blank. Is this a virus?

I believe it's a gltch. That is most likely the server instructing your phone to install/accept voice mail. It seems to happen a lot on Orange, especially with handsets bought NOT from them.
Point being: those 2 messages should usually be hidden. From all I can gather, yiu can open them. The second one is telling your phone to delete the first... weird, eh. Ring customer care to make sure I'm not kidding you.
Also, generally speaking you did the right thing - SMS are currently pretty much the main entrance for hackers into cell phones(forget viruse...for now, anyway). As a general rule: delete SMS and mail from unknown contacts. And ask customer care to block SMS from weirdos. They can do that.

This is a known error on Desire & some other handsets (including the Hero) on Orange since Android 2.1 was rolled out. It usually occurs when the handset is powered off and on again.

If you do a bit of digging around then you'll find various fixes for it. Lots of hints to do with this problem and voicemail messages.

What worked for me was the one where you turn the handset off then leave voicemail on the SIM via another phone number outwith Orange, power back on, delete voicemail before reading SMS messages.

It took a couple of tries to fix but I've not had a problem for months now.

Alright, will do a bit of digging. Is a pretty annoying glitch. Thank-you both
