How do I block a number on my iPhone? (O2)

How do I block a number on my iPhone? (O2)
I googled it and an O2 rep said it's not possible, and they'd have to give you a new number. Surely that's ridiculous?! :(

That sounds like ****. Here in Ireland you ring customer care, you tell them the number that gets on your nerves, and that's it... block.

You can assign a silent ringtone to the annoying number... great, eh?
If your iPhone is jailbreaked, you can install iBlacklist from Cydia. That, afaik, is the only blacklist app that actually does the job. Do NOT fall for the "blacklist" apps in the official appstore. They're all rubbish; none do what you're looking for...
Gee, my 2006 Symbian phone can do it.
